Unfinished

I know. I know what you’re going through. I walked halfway across this bridge and I expect you to walk your half to meet me. But I know the wind picked you up and threw you into the river as you rushed to meet me. I’m watching you now swim against the current, trying to get back to land.

Some people are lucky, they're born right on the shores of the Seven Seas that they'll eventually master. They live right by the docks, have family members who already own a ship, or possess the resources to fast track their way onto a ship. They will be known as legends and accomplish things that the whole world will find marvelous.

I am a nerd and I have always been a nerd. You’ve known this for a while now, I’m sure. Especially since I posted my article Stuck in the Shire (one of the greatest articles I’ve ever written) on this Substack. When I get the chance (mostly on Saturdays), I boot up my Xbox One X and play one of my favorite games.

I haven’t written much in the last 12 months or so. A few pieces. Good pieces. But I’ve been uncharacteristically quiet for a long time. I was burnt out in early 2022. I had decided to leave a guaranteed paycheck and take a leap of faith into the darkness. With no plan, I somehow ended up in Chicagoland by July 2022.

I wanted to be a teacher. But there wasn’t any money in it that could pay for all my other dreams. So I decided I should give my other love a try. The world of business. And it’s been great. I’ve discovered myself and so many things about business operations that I feel like it’s been the right decision.

I riled some people up with my Death of A Dream letter. Let’s remember what the Second Amendment of the US Constitution says: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Gandalf the Grey arrives in the Shire to recruit a Hobbit burglar. Dwarves, men, elves… all manner of folk immediately discount the little Hobbit, even Gandalf is unsure about the adventure in store. But soon they all discover just how brave this little Hobbit is and how far he’s willing to go for relative strangers:

In ancient times, philosophy was not a mere academic subject but rather a personal design for living well. Early philosophers sought to improve their perspectives and create rules to live by. Just following someone else’s rules for living well never really resonated with me.
